Ooty and Coonoor

Previous all my visit to Ooty was sort of adventures trips.  First to Mukurthi trekking and next drive to Avalanche Lake (after I started writing my travel blog). This time it was totally a family trip, first time i visited Ooty with my wife. Two more families joined us for this trip, Sunil & Vinay’s family.

It was Sunil’s first year wedding anniversary and he planned for this trip and asked us to join. Last minute Vinay also joined us as a surprise package :)

This time it was totally a family trip and our visits were limited to Botanical Garden, Lake, Shooting spot and some other major attractions of Ooty. First day of our trip we covered all these places and spent some good time in photoshoot.

Since it was a long weekend, Ooty was filled with tourists like anything. So for our second day we decided to hire a cab and visit places around, trust me that was the best decision we took.

We visited some of the famous places around Coonoor.

Lamb’s Rock:

The Lamb's Rock is just 8 km outside Coonoor while on the way to Dolphin's Nose. The place provides some fascinating views of the Coimbatore Plains and the Coonoor hills.

Dolphin's Nose:

Climbing up to the spot might require some effort, but it is totally worth it! From this point, one can catch the breath taking view of the Catherine falls hundreds of meters. Not sure why this place is called by this name, could not see anything which resembles dolphin nose around this place.

Tea estate & factory:

Highfield Tea Factory is a place that's drenched with the smell of fresh tea that's being brewed. 2km northeast of upper Coonoor is this Nilgiris of the western Ghats. More than anything else this place is famous for photo shoot in the costume of workers in the tea estate. They will only provide the costume and charges 50Rs per photo.

After reaching back to Ooty, spent some time in shopping and headed back to our Hotel.
For final day of our stay was dedicated to take a ride in Coonoor toy train.

Even the hotel which stayed was also a beautiful place, quite far from the main city which was located on the hill providing super view.

One of the places to visit from my wife’s checklist ticked from this trip :)

  2. Ooty is also known as The Blue Mountains due to the large number of Eucalyptus trees or because of the Kurinji flower that gives the mountains a bluish appearance. For information Best Hotels in Coimbatore visit to the link.
