A Festive Evening in Jayanagar

Image
This year, I had the chance to witness the Patalamma Grama Devata Habba in Jayanagar, one of the beautiful traditions celebrated every year around namma Bengaluru. It’s also known as "Ura Habba" in our local language, which means a festival of the local village deity. The entire area of Jayanagar was glowing with lights and decorations. Streets were filled with vibrant energy, and it almost felt like a mini version of Mysuru Dasara. The atmosphere was festive, colorful, and full of life. Though I couldn’t spend much time there, I took a quick walk around the decorated streets just to enjoy the beauty and soak in the festive spirit. It was heartwarming to see the community come together, celebrate, and keep these lovely traditions alive. Such moments remind us of the charm of local festivals and the joy they bring, even with a short visit.

Namma Bengaluru also called as Garden City. In Bengaluru each corner we can find one or the other Gardens around. One such beautiful garden is 'Lalbagh Botanical Garden', which is situated in South Bengaluru. No land mark is needed to reach this place. Lalbagh itself is a landmark for most of the surrounded places.  History of Garden: The Lalbagh gardens were commissioned by the 18th century; over the years, it acquired India's first lawn-clock and the subcontinent's largest collection of rare plants. Bangalore Fort

Image
As everyone know, Bangalore is famous for IT hubs and Pubs. It equally a home for many historical places. One such place is Bangalore Fort, I am sure many people won’t be aware of this small place situated at centre of the city.   Bangalore fort is just at a walkable distance from Tippu sultan Summer palace. Nearest bus stop is city market and metro is also a best option to reach this place.   History of Bangalore Fort: According to historical records, Naada Prabhu Kempegowda built the Fort in 1537 and Hyder Ali strengthened it further in 1761. Hyder Ali’s son Tipu Sultan made some improvements to the fort during his rule. The original fort was much bigger than what remains now.   There is no entry fee (as of May 2022) - we just need to fill our details before entering to fort. It open for visitors from 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM.   There is a small Ganesh temple at the entrance of the fort.   Its a small place but well maintained. Spent around 15 mins inside the ...

Ramanjaneya gudda

Image
Ramanjaneya gudda also called as Hanumanthana gudda. means the "Hill of Lord Hanuman". It is located in Hanumanth nagar, Bengaluru. One of my most favourite places in Namma Bengaluru as well.   Ramanjaneya gudda is one of the most popular Hanuman temples in the city, this temple in Hanumanth Nagar is famous for its beautiful statue of Lord Ram & Lord Hanuman. Gardens surround the temple add more beauty to the temple.   About Ramanjaneya Gudda: Constructed in the 1960s by the former chief minister of Karnataka, Kengal Hanumanthaiah. The highlight of the temple is, a nine-metre tall statue of the two deities entwined in an embrace is a striking view set atop the hill and supposedly visible from a distance! The sculpture situated at the helm of the temple instead of the usual spire, is said to be a symbol of love and devotion shared by the gods after the war against Ravana fought side-by-side in Lanka.  The outer premises of the temple have been converted into a lush pa...

Dodda Alada Mara - Big Banyan Tree

Image
Known as Dodda Alada Mara in local Kannada language, Big Banyan Tree is a four century old Banyan tree surrounded with its close to thousand areal roots, covering a massive area of 3 acres. By walking one round around the big banyan tree, you will be covering quarter of a km. Big Banyan tree campus is well maintained and is one of the popular picnic spots around Bengaluru.  Big Banyan tree is about 30 Kms from Bengaluru city center, towards Mysore road. Once on Mysore road, need to take right turn near Rajarajsehswari Engineering College (Kumbalgod Junction), from where it is one straight road all the way till Big Banyan Tree. Manchanabele dam and Savandurga are other two nearby places. Basic amenities are available around Big Banyan Tree, but for proper facilities, you will have to return to Mysore road. Do carry the essentials and be wary of monkeys. Do enjoy some sweet tender coconut water often sold by the roadside in this area. Given i...

Secret of Bangalore – SOB

Image
Its one of the fine place at Namma Bengaluru to chill out with friends, this place is surrounded with great ambiance and tasty food. SOB is located near RR Nagar (Rajarajeshwari Nagar), previously sun pub was there at this place!   It’s a huge place and have many seating arrangements, we can select non-smoking or smoking zone as per our requirement. Better to book a table in advance since it will be too much crowded and very difficult to get a table especially on weekend. Though its open for lunch time, It looks more beautiful under lights. The service is great, the food is very tasty and one should try sea food here. A totally different hangout place inside the city and must visit place.
