Mawphlang Sacred Forest

Image
Our last day in Meghalaya was all about nature and history as we made our way to the Mawphlang Sacred Forest. We started our journey from Shillong early in the morning, stopping at Elephant Falls along the way. The fresh mountain air and stunning landscapes made this trip feel special from the very start. We reached the forest around noon and were greeted by a guide who explained the rules and significance of the place. The Khasi people have long believed that nothing should be removed from the forest, as this might disturb the guardian spirits. It was fascinating to hear these stories, and it added a sense of wonder to our visit. As we entered the forest, we were surrounded by tall, ancient trees, beautiful moss-covered rocks, and plants we had never seen before. The guide showed us many medicinal plants and unique tree species, sharing stories about their uses and spiritual meaning. Walking through the forest felt like stepping into another world – quiet, untouched, and full of myste...

Mawsmai Caves

Image
Our day began in Cherrapunji, and it was one of those classic misty mornings that Meghalaya is known for. The fog was so thick that visibility was almost zero, making everything feel mysterious and a bit thrilling. Despite the mist, we were all excited to start our day and headed straight to Mawsmai Caves, our first stop. When we reached the caves, the fog added a magical vibe to the whole area. Mawsmai Caves are one of the most popular attractions in Cherrapunji and known for their natural limestone formations. Stepping into Mawsmai Caves was like entering another world. The caves are filled with unique rock formations, sharp stalactites hanging from the ceiling, and smooth paths carved by years of water flow. Some parts were narrow and required a little bit of squeezing through, which added to the fun! The inside was dimly lit, and the echoes of our voices and footsteps made the experience feel even more mysterious. The caves aren’t very long—about 150 meters—so it doesn’t take too l...

Cherrapunji

Image
On the fourth day of our Meghalaya trip, my friends and I finally arrived in Cherrapunji. This place is famous for its rain and beautiful landscapes, and we were all eager to explore it. After visiting places like Shillong and Dawki, we were excited to experience the misty hills and green valleys that Cherrapunji is known for. We booked our stay at Serenity Travellers Inn, located on the outskirts of the main city. The place was quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxing. In the early morning, I took a walk around the area and managed to take some beautiful pictures of the landscape. The clouds and rain kept coming and going, but I was able to get a few good shots despite the changing weather. I also had an exciting moment with some unexpected guests! I had been hoping to see some birds, and luckily, I spotted a stunning long-tailed shrike. The long-tailed shrike, also known as the rufous-backed shrike, is a bird found across Asia. I was thrilled to capture it in my camera, as it was one...

Jogimatti - Chitradurga's Hidden Gem

Image
Jogimatti is a peaceful hill station near Chitradurga, perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Located about 10 km from Chitradurga town, it offers a refreshing escape from city life. Its cool weather, lush greenery, and beautiful views make it ideal for a one-day trip or a quiet weekend getaway. We started our journey to Jogimatti from Chitradurga after exploring the historic Chitradurga Kallina Kote the previous day. The drive took about 30 minutes. After passing through the checkpost, the road wasn't in great condition, but it was surrounded by dense forests and scenic landscapes. The narrow and rough road added to the sense of adventure. If you're driving, ensure your vehicle is in good condition because the uphill journey can be challenging. Entry Fee: - ₹25 per person - ₹200 for a car - ₹50 for a camera Considering the road conditions and parking facilities, paying ₹200 for the car didn't seem worth it. Jogimatti is named after a sage called "Jogimatti,...
