Athirappilly Falls

Athirappilly Falls is known for its charming landscapes. This waterfalls is also know as ‘The Naigara of India’, its formation resembles the popular Naigara Falls in the USA. It is also the largest waterfalls in Kerala.

For last day of our trip we planned to visit this beautiful waterfalls, this water falls is around 130 Kms from Munnar and around 70 Kms from Kochi. While returning from Idukki dam we stayed at Kochi and before reaching Banglore we got a chance to visit this falls. This falls is around 525 kms from Bangalore.

One of the reasons behind the popularity of Athirappilly Falls are the movies that were shot here. Athirappilly Falls is one of the top film shooting locations in India. There is a big list of hit movies which famed at this beautiful place.

They will charge Rs. 15/- as entry fees and its open for visitors from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Its quite difficult to find a parking for your cars on crowded days. We can have different views of this falls. One is top view and one is front view.

This was second time I had visited this falls, but it was at rite time. Here also it was raining and could not click many pics here.

Over all it was wonderful trip, and mainly perfect time to visit this place. Monsoon at its best, everywhere it was surrounded by greenery.

Drive through Munnar, Mattupetty dam & drive to Idukki dam crossing some beautiful falls will remain as a beautiful memories 😊

Idukki dam and some unknown water falls

Munnar is one of such places where, no need to go far to visit waterfalls on the way only we will get to see many unknown waterfalls. That too in monsoon no need to mention it. We were luck to witness many such waterfalls on the way to Idukki dam.

After enjoying drive around munnar and visiting mattupetty dam we headed towards Idukki dam. On the way passed some of the beautiful waterfalls.

Although it was only 40Kms from place we stayed we took more than 4 hours to reach and ended up traveling more than 100Kms because of misguide or missing route!

After reaching dam, one more thing made us upset!  Near this dam Photo shoot is strictly prohibited. Such a beautiful place but we can’t capture that in our cameras. We do have lock rooms near ticket counter. We have to drop all our belongings at this place and should head towards dam.

They will charge Rs. 10/-entry fee to the dam and you have option to walk around the dam or you can opt for vehicle to take a round around the dam. Since long waiting list was there for vehicle we decided to walk around the dam. Really worth visiting place, but only thing is we can’t take photos near this place.

To walk around the Dam it will take almost 2 hours time, but trust me it will be worth walk. Such a beautiful place.

Mattupetty Dam

Trip started with ultimate drive through the routes of Munnar. After spending some relaxing hours in resorts we were ready to explore Munnar. Before starting to Dam, spent some time in clicking the pics around the resort.

There are multiple options to visit places around Munnar. As in other cities, Munnar also categorised into two parts: Old Munnar and Munnar town. Munnar town is the place where we see most of the shops, market place, cafes & guest houses. Just passed those roads and headed towards Mattupetty Dam.

Mattupetty Dam is around 11 Kms from Munnar (around 25 Kms from the place we were staying) we will get couple of other view points before reaching the dam. But, rain was quite study and didn’t let me to take my camera out of car.

Thankfully rain stopped for a while when we reached the dam and let us to take some pics.

Again rain started heavily we were rushed to our car and headed back to our hotel. Because of heavy rain faced difficulty while driving back to our resort, because of narrow roads!

Drive to Munnar

Monsoon expeditions started as per plan, after couple of one day encounters it was time to execute the long drive plans. Drive to munnar was planned well in advance. This drive was planned for 3 days. Sunil, Pradeep, Guru and Siddesh joined for this trip. Since we planned this trip in advance we got enough time to book hotels for our stay and to make a list of places to visit.

We decided the trip dates from July 8th to 10th. Started our journey on Thursday late night itself, every one gathered near our home and started our journey around 11.00PM. We can reach Munnar in different routes, since roads will be closed in night time to public vehicles in forest check post (Mysore route) we opted Housr – Dharmapuri - Selam – Namakkal – Dindagal – Munnar (around 520 Kms). Compared to other routes this route is bit long, but still considering the condition of road we chose this route.

Since it was late night, even traffic was not much and drive was very smooth. We estimated around 10 hours drive to reach our destination, including all our breaks.

Till Kodaikanal junction everything went as per plan. By the time we reach this junction it was around 5.30AM even sun started to come out providing awesome view. From here on our breaks were increased for photo session ðŸ˜Š

We were in no hurry to continue our journey; main intention was to enjoy the nature. Stopped near many view points and continued our photo session.

I should mention about this spot. View at this point was changing every minute, mist, sun light, passing clouds all together it was fest for our eyes ðŸ˜Š

Finally we reached our destination Ayur County resorts around 9.00 a.m.. Sunil booked a Ayur County Resorts which is located 15 kms away from Munnar.  Last time when I visited Munnar crossed this resort but could not stay here, but it was in bucket list. During this visit ticked this from wish list.

Finishing all the check in formalities it’s time to get fresh and relax for a while.  My personal opinion is we can spend awesome time in and around this resort only instead of going out for side seeing.

We decided to spend some time in pool before going out for side seeing. Cold weather and continuous rain for a sec made us to think about it, but it was fun ðŸ™‚ Trust me one should try that ! It was awesome experience.

After getting refresh, we planned to visit Mattupetty Dam which was around 30 Kms from resort.

Vagamon Heights

After enjoying the morning Jeep drive to Ullupooni, we decided to relax at the resort. For the evening, we planned to visit Vagamon Heights,...
