Galibeedu Waterfalls

This waterfall is hidden gem around this place. I heard about the many private waterfalls around coorg and this is one of such waterfall located near Galibeedu. Localities call it as Abbe falls (basically abbe means waterfall in local language).

Waterfalls is located around 13 Kms from Madekeri town. It’s difficult to find it on google map as well.

From the homestay we stayed, waterfalls is around 4 Kms. We can opt for trekking or else we can drive for 2 Kms and we can park our vehicles roadside and take a normal route. But still we need to walk around 2 Kms.

We just drove our cars to near by place and started walking from there. Keeping leaches in mind we decided to take out our cars. Even for kids it would have been difficult to walk for close to 8 Kms (To and Fro)

It’s a jeep track and need to walk in some private estate to reach falls.

We can see the streams on the way to waterfalls and good place for kids to play in water.

By the time we reached waterfalls one other group was there near the falls, even they were leaving when we reached. Which allowed us to play in water freely.

Even we could click few pics without any disturbance.

Waterfall is around 20 feet high and drop in two steps. It’s completely safe to walk till the waterfalls and stand near falls. One should be careful while climbing the slippery rocks (better to avoid that circus 😜).

Kids enjoyed the most playing freely in water 😊

Spent couple of hours near waterfall and headed back to homestay.

Things to remember:

  • There is no changing room or rest rooms near waterfalls
  • No shops near by, better to carry drinking water
  • Place is so clean, advised to maintain the same (Don’t litter)

Galibeedu Trek

Galibeedu trek tail comes under Pushpagiri range. During our stay in Galibeedu for first day we planned for trek to view point as suggested by homestay guy.

Our guide (homestay guy) was telling there was a continuous rain from past couple of days and it stopped only today. Because of that we might expect lot of leaches and he asked us to be prepared for leach bites.

The path was easy but the leaches made it quite difficult to climb, not even we passed 50 meters from homestay started experiencing the leach bites.

The view was amazing from starting :)

The path was bit slippery and uphill made us take some extra time to reach the peak.

But we never missed an opportunity to pose to our cameras.

It was an easy trek, took us 2 hours to complete the trek. Since it was getting dark rushed to homestay without spending much time near the view point.

Reached back homestay around 6.00 PM, by the time reached homestay it started getting very dark and slight drizzling as well.

Leaches didn’t leave us even after reaching our homestay! We found some leaches inside the room also.

With kids around it was scary to bare the leaches, that to inside the room. This place is not recommended for families, this property is well maintained only on website. But should mention about the food, though it was very limited menu, food served was very delicious :)

Experience during the stay was not so pleasant, they could have maintain the place in a better shape.

Dudhsagar trek

Dudhsagar trek, which was on my bucket list for a long time. Four times I booked tickets or slots for this trekking but could not make it due to one or the other reason. This time Sunil arranged for this trek and asked me to join. We booked our slot through ‘The Dreamy Destinations Tours & Adventures’.

We reached Belagavi Saturday morning, Sunil picked us from the railway station and went to his home. We had enough time to catch our train to Miraj so we decided to visit Gokak falls.

Once we came back from Gokak falls, we packed all our luggage and headed to the railway station. Train was on time and boarded the train to Miraj. Plan was to reach Miraj and board the train along with other group members from Miraj. Till we reached Miraj and boarded our train everything went as per plan.

We were informed that we will get down near Kulem and start trekking from there. But the plan got changed, we crossed Kulem station and somewhere on mid way the train stopped for a min for crossing one person asked us to get down from the train (it was around 3.00 AM). We got down, suddenly someone from the organising team shouted not here get in.. get in… Really it was a scary moment and somehow we managed to get back into the train.

We were not aware of team size initially, but it turned out to be a big team (it was a team of 53) members! And 4 guides were leading this group, which caused all confusion… Finally we got down in the middle of the railway track. One thing for sure, we crossed Dudhsagar station and that we were in the middle of the jungle.

Many groups were there, and each one was taking some different path! but our final destination was Dudhsagar Falls 🙂

Started our trek around 4.00 AM. Initial trek was not a railway track trek. We walked for some time in the middle of the forest, crossed a few streams and we were just walking. When I checked with the guide he said we are walking through “Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary Park”.

Finally the sun started showing up and the morning mist was giving more beauty to the surroundings. And uphill took us to the railway track as well.

First pic of the trek 🙂

We were just a few minutes walk away from the waterfalls. Only one tunnel we crossed to reach the waterfalls. And by 6.30 AM we reached Dudhsagar!

Just spent some time clicking the pics around and the police asked us to leave the place.

While coming back we took some different routes, but it was an amazing experience.

This is how we crossed the stream.

Full view of Dudhsagar waterfall.

Spent around 1 hour clicking pics and playing in the water 🙂 We had enough time to spend.

After spending some time in water, it was time to fill our empty stomachs.

Had breakfast near this beautiful temple.

From this point it’s just a plain walk in a reserve forest.

Near the check post.

Once we crossed the check-post we took the railway track and it was around 9 Kms walk on the track towards Kulem railway station.

Completed the trek around 2.30 PM. Lunch was arranged near Kulem in one of the restaurants. After lunch, I relaxed there for some time and finally ticketed the long awaited trek from the bucket list 🙂

Gokak Falls

Visiting Gokak waterfalls was not part of the plan, we were heading for dudhsagar trek and had enough time to spend. Our train was at 6.30 PM from Belagavi. Since we reached Belagavi morning only, we thought of driving to gokak falls.

Sunil picked us from the railway station and took us to his home. After finishing breakfast we decided to drive to Gokak falls, which is around 75 Kms from Belagavi. It will take close to one and half hour to reach Gokak falls, road condition is quite good (but it’s a single road).

Gokak falls is around 10 Kms from Gokak taluk. There is enough space for parking. Apart from parking charges, entrance to waterfalls is free.

There is a temple dedicated to Lord Mahaligeshwara at the entrance of the waterfalls.

The attraction of this place is the hanging bridge (now they blocked the entrance through the bridge). Last time when we visited this place we got an opportunity to walk across the bridge.

Water level was not that much, we were expecting more water this time considering the amount of rain during the last few weeks. But still it was ok compared to our last visit 😊 River Ghataprabha is the source of water to this falls.

We walked around the waterfalls and clicked a few pics.

Since we could not cross the bridge, we could not get the pic of the front view of the waterfalls.

Spent some time clicking the pics around and headed back to Belagavi. There are not many good options for lunch around this place. We need to come back to Gokak taluk for better options.

We were supposed to catch a train to Miraj from Belagavi, keeping that in mind we headed back to Belagavi.

Vagamon Heights

After enjoying the morning Jeep drive to Ullupooni, we decided to relax at the resort. For the evening, we planned to visit Vagamon Heights,...
