Beluru

Image
Since it was unplanned trip, we thought of visiting Belur and Halebidu while going back to Bangalore. Though Belur and Halebidu and just 16 Kms away, they are always referred to as if they are one. The temples of Belur and Halebidu are best known for their south Indian architecture. Its 25 Km from Chikmagalur, 40 Km from Hassan and 220 Km from Bangalore. Beluru: The Belur (Chennakesava Temple) originally called Vijayanarayana Temple; the main attraction in Belur is the Chennakesava temple. The main temple itself is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. It was built by king Vishnuvardhana around 12th century. Belur Chennakesava Temple Timings: Morning: 7.00 AM – 1.00 PM Evening: 2.00 PM – 8.00 PM The Beluru temple took more than 100 years to construct. The material used for both temples is soap stone which is soft and easy to carve when taken out from the earth but gets harder over prolonged exposure to the atmosphere. ...

Halebidu

Halebidu is 16km from Beluru and takes 30 mins to reach, though many times I visited Beluru didn’t get a chance to visit Halebidu.   About Halebidu: Halebidu is one of the best examples of Hoysala architecture in the ornate Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara temples though they were never completed and was ruined through repeated attacks by enemy empires and later ravaging by the British. Like Belur, the Halebeedu, town too has several shrines built during Hoysala reign. Halebeedu and Belur are called as the ‘Twin towns’. These temples have existed for almost a 1000 years now and they are definitely worth seeing. We can visit these places in any season, but suggest not to visit in summer, its difficult to walk on the heated rocks. Because of the heat only we will get exhaust and will loose interest. We could not spend more time here, we were feeling like standing on fire, they had put some mats around the temple but it will not help. Left this place around 1.00 PM and stopped for lu...

About Journey: Always it will be fun to go out with this team. No prior discussions, No proper planning, No information about place, just nothing...!!! If suddenly someone from this team feels like going out, then he picks up his phone and gives a call to other members, if everyone is free then just takes out the vehicle and drive to the place which will come to our mind.  Same thing happened on this time also, this time it was Lohith who initiated this trip. He called me around 6.30 in the evening and asked me about weekend plans, I said as of now nothing. Next moment he asked me ‘how about going for a long drive tonight...!’, even I was tired of routine week day activities at office, said ok check with others. He called Manju and I called Chetan. Manju was fine to join us for a drive, but as always Chetan came up with his own stories, but no one was ready to listen to him. We just informed him that we are going out tonight and we will pick him from his home, once he re...

Exploratory Trek to Mukurthi Peak

Image
Last minute shocks, lot of arguments, started our day. We thought we can convince James and Jamboo (our guides) for trekking as planned. But we could not, left it to Nischith because of communication (language) problem. In front of Government IB Nischith (Captain for this trekking) was communicating with guides (he only arranged for permission from department), he went with Jamboo to call his uncle and department people to get permission. Jamboo told us only in one particular point we will get network, for that we need to walk 2Kms from IB and have to climb hill..!! Conference Call and Team Meeting …!!! Lots and lots of discussions and phone calls but finally in vain. Conversation started at 7.30 a.m and ended at 10.00 a.m. Finally they let us to go for trekking but they said they won’t come with us for trekking.  But anyway we were happy that they allowed us to go for trekking through the beauty. They just guided us the route and asked us to...
