Kavaledurga Fort

During our second day of stay in Thirthahalli we planned to visit Kavaledurga fort, we knew that its not the ideal time to visit (best time to visit this fort is monsoon) but we included this in our plan.

Road condition is very good to reach Fort from Thirthahalli, resort guy was telling it will take 1 hour to reach but we could reach the Fort with in 30 minutes from Vihangama Resort. Ride was awesome, initially we could not even see the road for next 10 feet because of mist! But gradually it reduced 😊

There will be a person near entrance to make an entry of your vehicles and they will charge Rs.20 for bike parking. They even check our bags, Normal camera is allowed inside the fort but they will not allow drones inside. There is a small shop sells basic stuff near the parking area where we can buy water bottle and some snacks.

We could witness the sunrise and always early morning rides will be memorable one.

About Fort: Kavaledurga Fort of Sivappanayaka is one of the most famous travel destinations around Thirthahalli, which is popular not only for its scenic surroundings and remarkable architecture, but also for being an ideal trekking spot for trekkers. It is located about 16 Kms from Thirthahalli. Kavaledurga is a magnificent fort located on a hill at an attitude of 1541meters. Kavaledurga is a short trek of 3 Km to the peak and it might take about 2 hours to reach the summit.

Initial part of the trek will be through paddy fields and then we will come across a wooden gate to be crossed. From here on its a stone pathway. In rain season all the path and walls of the fort will be covered with green! But now it was totally dried (so this will be a good excuse to visit the fort again some other time).

Though time was still 8.30 AM we started feeling the heat while climbing the fort. Since most of the place dry we didn’t not explored all part of the fort, just spent some time and clicked pics around and headed back to resort.

Things to remember:

  • Best time to visit in monsoon
  • Not much restraints around the fort, only basic snacks available in near by shop
  • Carry enough water
  • Do not litter the place
