Birdwatching at Sakleshpur
During our stay at Hillock Vista Homestay, we got a wonderful opportunity to spot and capture a few beautiful birds while roaming around the property. Surrounded by greenery, coffee plantations, and calm surroundings, Sakleshpur turned out to be a lovely place for birdwatching.
Sakleshpur is about 220 km from Bengaluru, and the drive takes around 5–6 hours. The peaceful environment and pleasant weather make it perfect for slow travel and nature exploration 🌿🚗.
Below are some of the birds we found during our visit:
🐦 Asian Woolly-necked Stork
A tall and impressive bird with a white neck and dark body. We spotted it standing quietly near open areas, giving a calm and majestic feel.
🦜 Plum-headed Parakeet
This colorful parakeet was easy to notice with its bright plum-colored head. It was seen flying in small groups and filling the air with cheerful sounds.
🐤 Jungle Babbler (Rufous)
Always active and noisy, these birds were moving together as a group. They are commonly called “Seven Sisters” because of their social nature.
🪵 Golden-backed Woodpecker (Black-rumped Flameback)
A striking bird with golden-yellow feathers on its back. We noticed it pecking on tree trunks while searching for insects.
💛 Eurasian Golden Oriole
Its bright yellow body made it stand out among the green trees. We mostly heard its sweet call before spotting it.
🤍 White-bellied Treepie
A beautiful bird with a long tail and graceful movements. It was seen hopping between branches near the homestay.
🖤 Common Hill Myna
Known for its shiny black body and yellow markings near the eyes. This bird has a loud and clear call and was often seen in pairs.
🍃 Malabar Barbet
A common bird in this region, mostly heard before being seen. Its repeated call echoed through the trees around the property.
🌼 Yellow-browed Bulbul (Golden-browed Bulbul)
A small and lively bird with a bright yellow stripe above its eyes. It moved quickly through bushes and trees.
🔴 Minivet
The male minivet stood out with bright red and black colors, while the female was yellow. They were mostly seen high up in trees.
🍀 Golden-fronted Leafbird
A lovely green bird with a golden forehead. It blended well with the surroundings and was seen feeding quietly.
🌾 Paddyfield Pipit
A small brown bird usually found in open spaces. We spotted it walking on the ground, searching for food.
🐦 Brown Shrike
The Brown Shrike is a small bird often seen sitting quietly on open branches or wires. It watches its surroundings carefully and quickly dives down to catch insects, making it interesting to observe during birdwatching walks.
Birdwatching at Sakleshpur was a peaceful and refreshing experience. The variety of birds and the calm atmosphere around Hillock Vista Homestay made our stay even more special. If you enjoy nature, photography, and quiet moments, Sakleshpur is definitely worth a visit 📸✨
