Some places never lose their charm, no matter how many times you visit them. One such place is Somanathapura, a small village near Mysuru that is home to the magnificent Chennakesava Temple. Although our main destination was Sri Bhoo Varahanatha Swamy Temple, this unplanned stop turned out to be one of the highlights of our journey.

🚗 Our Journey

The main purpose of this road trip was to visit Shri Bhoo Varahaswamy Temple near Mysuru. Joining me on this journey were my friends Pradeep, Sunil, Gani, and Shashi. Before heading to our destination, we took a small detour to Shashi’s hometown near Malavalli.

We met his wonderful family and enjoyed a delicious breakfast at his family-run hotel. ☕🥞 It was a refreshing start to the day and made our trip even more memorable.



On our way, we decided to make a quick stop at Somanathapura. Even though I have visited this temple several times before, it never feels boring. Every visit reveals something new in the intricate carvings and peaceful surroundings. 😊

📜 A Little History

The Chennakesava Temple at Somanathapura was built in 1268 AD during the Hoysala Empire. It is famous for its stunning stone carvings and beautiful Hoysala architecture. Every wall, pillar, and sculpture tells a story, making it a paradise for history lovers and photographers. 🏛️✨










Since our main destination was still about 2 hours away, we spent only a short time exploring the temple before continuing our drive towards Shri Bhoo Varahaswamy Temple.

  • 🚗 Travel Tip: If you’re travelling towards Mysuru or Malavalli, include Somanathapura in your itinerary. Even a short visit is worth it. Carry water and visit early in the morning or late afternoon for pleasant weather and great photos.

Bhima Bakasura Betta

There are lot of historical places around Namma Bengaluru, one such place is Bheema Bakasura betta which is around 70 Kms from Bengaluru. This hill is located in a small village called Kaiwara, Chikkaballapura district. This place is more famous for many other temples say Kaiwara Tatayya temple, Amaranarayana Swamy Temple & Bhemmalingeshwara Temple.   History of Kaiwara betta: Kaiwara also has various stories attached to Ramayana & Mahabharata. Mythology has it that Bhima killed Bakasura during the exile period of the Pandavas when they stayed at Kaiwara. From past one year I have covered most of the hills around Chintamani and this was pending in the list. One weekend we started this trek early morning (just to avoid the heat). Dainthlen Falls

Our adventure in Meghalaya continued as we set out from Cherrapunji early in the morning, excited for a day filled with exploration. Our main goal for the day was to reach the Double Decker Root Bridge, but on the way, we planned a stop at the beautiful Dainthlen Falls. Once again, trusting Google Maps landed us in an unexpected adventure! We took an unusual route to start the Double Decker Root Bridge trek, only to find ourselves on a road that was far from ideal. For a stretch of just 12 kilometers, the map estimated a challenging 1.5-hour drive due to rough road conditions. But, as luck would have it, this alternative route led us to a pleasant surprise: the stunning Dainthlen Waterfall.
